The leopard (Panthera pardus) is dispersed over a wider area today than that of any of the other large cats. It is one of the roaring cats, capable of producing a deep sawing roar similar to that of the jaguar. The leopard coat pattern has a clear yellow coat with dark spots or rosettes. Some leopards’ coats may vary in colour, and the jet-black melanistic type is also popularly called the ‘Black Panther’

In 1931, Frank S. Smythe was one of six British mountaineers who climbed Kamet. On his return to the plains, he crossed the Bhyundar Pass, standing at 5,086m, “with the intention of exploring the mountainous region at the source of the two principal tributaries of the Ganges, the Alaknanda and Gangotri rivers’. The next day, Smythe descended to “lush meadows… embowered amidst flowers.
The magical world of ferns
By :

• Ferns, of which there are now about 12000 species, have been on our planet for more than 300 million years in the Carboniferous Period (about 369-280 million years ago), they grew abundantly; the period was known as the ‘Age of Ferns’. Most ferns of this period became extinct but, later, some evolved into our modern ferns.

The Asian elephant
By :

Many species of elephant once roamed the Earth. Today, they are limited to just two species in Africa and the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus). In India, the wild Asian elephant population is estimated to be 25,000-27,000. Weighing 3,000 kg, the Asian elephant differs from the African one in a number of ways:

KULLU SHAWLS (INDIA)
Kullu’s famous shawls evolved from the pattu, the traditional dress of the valley. A three-meter length of hand-woven wool, the pattu is worn by women like a tunic, wrapped round the body and fastened at the front and over the shoulders. The pattu is still widely used by village women, usually worn on top of pajamas. Married women also wear a dhattu, or headscarf.
Men use to wrap the pattu like a shawl across their shoulders but it’s rare to see a man wearing one these

Only 10 of these islands are inhabited – Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kiltan, Agatti, Bangaram, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, and Minicoy. The last six are open

ITALY-FOR TRAVELERS
Let me guide you how to a visit Italy if you have just 3 days
Dreading the delirium of the half-a-day-per city method.
First day: Choose Verona, because it’s small and less sought-after, and thereby devise the dummy approach to seeing Italy. By the evening of the first day I am certain that if you’ve seen on Italian town you’ve seen them all, if you’ve done the rounds of one church you will most certainly overdose on Renaissance art,

COAST TO COAST (BEACHES OF INDIA)
India’s 7,600-km-long coastline is –apart from famous interruptions like Goa-virtually one huge stretch of untouched beach. The best-kept secrets are in the east, but the sun has by no means set on the western coast. A state-by-state round-up:
Orissa
The only tourists who ventured onto its silken sands used to be Bengali families or pious folks visiting Puri’s Jagannath temple.

MANILA –FOR TRAVELERS
At one o’clock on a weekday night Manila’s Roxas Boulevard (of Baywallk, as I is better known) is buzzing with a variety of entertainment. A group of young stand-up comedians in lurid polyester overalls, sporting gelled Mohawk manes, tumble across a temporary stage shrieking Tagalog lines that send the crowds into hysterical fits of laughter. A little further down a band called Harmony belts out mushy hip-hop to people sitting at a café.

VISIT CITY PALACE, BANGALORE IN INDIA
Anything that comes with the ‘heritage’ tag in Bangalore gives on goosebumps, seeing how the city loves to consign its past to oblivion. The Jayamahal Palace Hotel- an icing sugar-white miniature castle complete with turreted parapets, a royal standard and sprawling grounds- is a lovely anomaly in the traffic-choked heart of the Cantonment. It was apparently built only a century ago by then British Resident, Sir James Austin Bourdillon, though

PARADISE IN NANDI HILLS OF INDIA
Yes it’s in the state of Karnataka of India.
Nandi Hills has absolutely flat surrounding plains, just outside Bangalore. These are not gently rolling hills, but giant, 2,000-ft granite monolith towering over you that seems to appear from nowhere. The effect is magical.
The hills get their name from the beautiful statue of Nandi standing guard outside the Yoganandeeshwara Temple atop the hills.

MADVI BEACH-FOR TRAVELERS
Mandvi beach is the only privately owned beach in India, with the property extending right up to the waterline
Two-and-a-half kilometers of beach all to yourself. A waiter from the restaurant trudges across the sand, bearing provender. Long pool-chairs, under a thatch umbrella. The waves gambol in a few feet away. A fairly determined sort of breeze comes in from the west. A chap could get used to this.

ADVENTURES OF BR HILLS IN INDIA
LOCATION: State Karnatka, India
What can you say about a place where the local deity is a wandering spirit who wears outsized sandals? And a region so wild that the milestones are painted yellow and green for fear of marauding elephants? For some obscure reason, wild elephants in these parts get so peeved by white milestones that they pull them out and fling them around. The Forest Department recently pulled one of these specimens out o

RELIGIONS IN INDIA-FOR TRAVELERS
By :
Rajneesh
India has seven major religions and many minor ones, six main ethnic groups, and countless holidays.
Religion is central to Indian culture, and its practice can be seen in virtually every aspect of life in the country. Hinduism is the dominant faith of India, serving about 80 percent of the population. Ten percent worship Islam, and 5 percent are Sikhs and Christians; the rest (a good 45 million) are Buddhists, Jains, Bahai, and more.
INDEPENDENCE OF INDIA
By :
Rajneesh
The Rajs demise was partially a result of its remarkable success. It had gained control of the country by viewing it as a source of profit. Infrastructure had been developed, administration established, and an entire structure of governance erected. India had become a profitable venture, and the British were loath to allow the Indian population any power in a system that they viewed as their own accomplishment. The Indians didn’t appreciate this much, and as the 20th century dawned there were in
HORSLEY HILLS OF INDIA
By :
Rajneesh
Yes it’s in the state of Andhra Pradesh of India.
In an earlier avatar when Horsley Hills was not the commercial hill station it is now, it used to be an undeveloped rustic hillock. According to local legend, a pious woman called Mallamma used to live on the top of the hill where she was protected and looked after by an elephant. Word soon got around and the place was rather simplistically dubbed Yenugu Mallamma Konda (hill).
