After having smoked for over 40 years I finally quit. The methods used for quitting vary greatly, the methods I tried were: • Hypnosis • The nicotine Patch • Acupuncture • Acupressure • Psychotherapy (honest) • And the pill (Zyban) The Hypnosis did not work for me as I could not be put under, and the laser and patch were also ineffective, I did however find a way to stop smoking successfully. It also appears that like any other form of addiction, it is permanent.that is I will die a smoker, I will have stopped smoking but it will ALWAYS be out there somewhere waiting for me to have another smoke. And if I ever should take that first drag, I will be a full time smoker almost immediately; I know I have tried it. so the only thing that I can do is to be on the guard and never take that first puff. And if you are serious about quitting you have to develop the same attitude or your failure is inevitable… sorry but quitting is as much a change in attitude as it is about using a particular method for quitting. One other thing is that you have to remember that you will not die if you don’t get another cigarette, it’s odd because at one point or another having another smoke will kill you, it just seems like it’s the other way around. If you are serious about quitting, do yourself a favor and take a look at some of the effective methods of quitting, I have purposely left out some methods of cessation since the only people who think they are worthwhile are the people that represent the companies that either manufacture or distribute those items. The ones I deliberately left out are The pill, although it may actually be somewhat effective, acupressure/acupuncture. And the nicotine patch/gum.
