My passion lies in helping others get what they want. As it turns out, many people really dislike their jobs. I have to ask myself, why are these people working there in the first place? It could be akin to a couple falling "out of love" in a marriage. Really, how do you fall "out of love"? The reality is, many of the workers that hate their jobs are either there because their parents or friends told them it was something they should do. Know any dentist whose dad was a dentist or lawyers whose dad was a lawyer? Years ago I was a flight instructor at a school that trained airline pilots. My family has no background in aviation so it was amazing to me how many students had family in the airlines. I always wondered if they were going to enjoy the profession or if they were just doing it because their parents were paying for it. Our culture also seems to tell us that wherever the money is would be a good place to work. Personally I left a very high-paying job in the past, not because I was unhappy with the money, but I was unhappy with the quality of life. Take a minute to think about making money. If you are in business for yourself, would it be easier to make money doing something you hate or something you love? That should be a pretty clear distinction, but it is something that many people have not accepted yet. This rule does not just apply to being in business for yourself. The reason the Personality & Career Profile remains our number one seller is because our culture is finally beginning to realize that work is about more than just our skills and abilities, but also about our value, dreams and passions. Step back and take a fresh look at how you are made and how you can uniquely help others. That is not only where your passions are, but also where the money is.
