Titanium is not the first thing that someone might think of when it comes to jewelry, but it is a very popular metal that is being used in jewelry today because of its luxurious look and texture. The name Titanium comes from the name Titans, a race which is believed to have existed and inhabited the earth before the creation of man. Today titanium is used in many different things that enhance our every day life such as fashion apparel, medical equipment, automobiles, architecture, aerospace, marine technology, industrial tools as well as sports equipment. Titanium has played a role in helping to conserve and even improve our economy.

Titanium has two properties which make it popular with designers. Those properties are its high strength-to weight ratio, and its resistance to corrosion. These two properties give designers more freedom to be creative. It is also popular with consumers because it is lightweight, hypoallergenic, non tarnishing and considered to be non-destructible. Titanium has a rich color which allows it to be combined with traditional metals for unique effects in jewelry. When polished, titanium resembles platinum but with only a quarter of its weight and twice the strength of the hardest steel. When it is combined with precious metals titanium creates a brilliant and stunning look. Many couples prefer to strengthen their wedding bands with titanium rings. Some couples will even carve symbols into a ring made of solid titanium.

Titanium is very popular among men because it symbolizes strength and masculinity. Mens rings and watches made with titanium are becoming increasingly popular. Titanium can be easily crafted and molded into different shapes to create a strong light-weight ring. Colors can also be added to broaden the range of designs. Black titanium mens wedding bands are also very popular. Wedding rings made from titanium also come in a variety of finishes from stain to matte to polished. Gems can also be added to enhance the design of the ring.

The Cost Of Titanium

In terms of price, titanium is cheaper than white gold. However, this may not be reflected in some retail prices. The reason for that has to do with the cost of labor. Since titanium is harder to mine than gold the cost of jewelry made with titanium may be a little higher. Still, titanium is becoming increasingly popular with designers as well as consumers. People are willing to pay a slightly higher price for it because of the unique properties that titanium has.
