Despite the numerous benefits brought about by criminal background check for many businesses, this process could be a burden in the part of many applicants. Since this screening is done to help business owners pick the best applicants for the job, the people with past criminal records, little or no work experience and the less educated have a lesser chance of getting hired. Credit reports are also something feared by many applicants because they could give out results that are not actually of the person. Most of the time, a third party takes advantage of the person’s credits or the credit-reporting agency itself can file the report under a wrong social security number. Mistakes such as these could cost many people their jobs. When an applicant is dismissed form a job due to a result of a background check , the employer do not usually give out an explanation of the dismissal. So an applicant is never given a chance to explain whatever discrepancies the records may have held. This is the reason why so many applicants, even those with nothing to hide, fear background checks during a hiring process. How can applicants protect themselves? The law now requires employers to ask a written consent from applicant before doing any background checks. During that interview, tell your employer everything that you possibly can to explain anything that he/she may find in your records in the future.
