Smallville’s highly-anticipated eighth season hasn’t got any film shots yet, but the fans have already gone into endless discussions on the show’s shake-ups behind the scenes. In fact, we already know that Micheal Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk, two very vital characters in the show, are reportedly taking a part-time job on the series, while Allison Mack is taking the longest time to sign her contract. Amidst all the departure talk, there was another actress who is leaving the show. Laura Vandervoort, who plays Supergirl in the CW series, has already told TV Guide that she wont be back as a series regular in the following season. The last we saw of Supergirl, she was trapped in the Phantom Zone courtesy of the evil Brainiac. Vandervoort says that the cast was shocked to watch her character get trapped in an otherworldly prison. “We were all surprised when they chose not to bring me back as a regular,” Vandervoort said. “But I’m sure I’ll be back for one or two [episodes]!” Now that Vandervoort is spreading her wings to accommodate other acting ventures, she says that she is proud of her Smallville stint. She says that it was fun playing Clark Kent ’s cousin, and was very proud to do so. "The show is about Clark Kent, and I was honored to be a part of it," she said. "I mean, my character became more than it was supposed to be. She ended up sticking around the entire season." While there have been rumors about a Supergirl spin-off, it seems that Vandervoort won’t be anywhere near it. In fact, she has already moved on to do film work. She is now in Hawaii shooting the direct-to-DVD movie, Into the Blue 2, the sequel to the Paul Walker and Jessica Alba film. Vandervoort joins Chris Cormack of The O.C., Marsha Thomason of Lost and David Anders of Heroes in the sequel. Don’t forget to check video stores for the release of Supergirl’s new endeavor.
