I have been told time and time again that in order to fully understand God, I need to read scripture from the Bible. Unfortunately, since I was a child, I have had a bit of a learning disability. Mind you, I get by and always have, but I am the type of person that has to read a sentence five times before I finally get the meaning of the sentence. So, if you are anything like me, you will find ten million other things to do other than to literally sit down and read the Bible. Don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy learning from the Bible, it's just that I am a very busy person and I don't have a lot of "spare time". What I have found is that if I listen to scripture, rather than read it, I can multi-task; and in fact, I actually better understand what I am hearing than if I were actually reading it myself. I am a computer geek and I am usually on the computer during the week from the time I get home from work until the time I go to bed. I get things done around the house, but mostly only whatever is necessary for me to get done. Some Saturdays, I am on the computer from around 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 a.m. or 5:00 a.m. Sunday. You see my dilemma? Not much time left for sitting down and actually reading my Bible, that is unless I decide to read it online. If you find yourself to be anything like me, or possibly just as busy, here are a couple of solutions that may help you - I know it has helped me tremendously!

SOLUTION 1:
Think about a topic that you are curious about, something to do with God; then go on a quest on www.biblegateway.com and do a word search to find scripture in the bible to answer your questions. Usually my intention is to do a quick search and be done with it, but then I end up reading more than anticipated, with most of my questions fully answered. Pretty awesome, huh? However, this solution does not save you any time, nor does it really free up any time for you to do anything else.

SOLUTION 2:
This solution has been ideal for me. What you can do is purchase an audio Bible on CD. I have found that the New Living Translation (NLT) or the New International Version (NIV) are the easiest to understand. You can buy the Bible complete (i.e. Old and New Testaments) or you can purchase them separately. I have also found places on the internet that will allow you to download the audio Bible directly from their websites for free - it really is amazing and is narrated quite well! Me personally, I bought the Audio Bible on CD (New Testament - NLT) and I have been downloading sections of the Old Testament from a site online. When listening to the audio version of the Bible, you can get other things accomplished without having to stop and read. You can even listen to them in your car to and from work. However, there are times that while listening to the audio Bible, I will actually take my Bible out and read along - sometimes it seems that I just need a little more clarification from the study notes in my Bible.

I found the following scripture to be relevant to reading and hearing the Word of God:

Romans 10:14-18 (New Living Translation)
14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

16 But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, "Lord, who has believed our message?"17 Yet faith comes from listening to this message of good news--the Good News about Christ.

18 But what about the Jews? Have they actually heard the message? Yes, they have:
"The message of God's creation has gone out to everyone, and its words to all the world."
