Renee Cassar's motto - as shown on her Myspace page is "No Music, No Life." One would think that a singer who made such a bold statement had been studying and honing their musical craft since they were a small child, correct?

That's not how it was for Aussie Singer/Songwriter Renee Cassar. She grew up in pursuit of another talent, in fact - tennis. She played tennis competitively from a young age and was intensely focused on her athletic pursuits, making it such that other interests and passions fell by the wayside.

Then, as a teenager, she experienced a life-changing event. I am sure that anyone that listens to her music would agree it was a turn for the positive.

Theater was a major focus of study for Renee in school, and naturally she wanted to participate as one of the actors in the production that they were mounting at her school. There was, however, one teeny thing to overcome. The school had chosen to produce the musical Fame - and singing was something Renee had never even tried! However, she only had to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" for the audition and so she decided to give it a shot. When the lead role of Carmen went to her, it must have been completely unexpected!

Even though she availed herself of professional assistance in the form of singing lessons prior to opening night, she was still very green when she made her first appearance in front of an audience. To add to the drama, all those well-meant singing lessons had caused her to lose her voice! Still, with voice remedies tucked backstage in case of emergency, she forged on and sang the role. And she's never looked back.
