Weymouth is an extraordinary seaside town with many sites of interest and one of my favorite is the Brewery Days and Timewalk Museum, which is a amazing place to visit if you adore your history, although it is also a good experience for all the family. This award-winning attraction sends you to Portland and Weymouth’s past spanning roughly six hundred years and you will experience the sights, sound and smells all through the entire tour which make this an unforgettable experience.
First of all you go in the brewery archivist’s office and make sure you look out for the hands of the old clock as they begin turning the wrong way, taking you back to the time of the 14th century when the area was in the clutch of the Black Death. There are many accurate life-size arrangements each of which present the history of the area throughout the ages. These include the town’s preparations for the impending arrival of the Spanish Armada in 1588, and in Hope Square there is an iron chest on display which is said to have been reclaimed from the San Salvador, a Portuguese flagship of the Armada.
There is also the Victorian brewhouse where you will come across the Brewery Days attraction which gives you a look into the brewing history of Hope Square stemming from 1821 all the way to the present day. To keep up with up to date attractions there is an interactive gallery with audio and visual presentation which tells you story of the brewery’s past as well as the procedure of making the beer. Ultimately you reach the Drum & Dancer which is a Victorian bar where you get to try one of a variety of superior ales which are brewed on site by The Quay Brewery.
If beer is not your thing then you can take a stroll around the twenty or so shops that are enclosed in the brewery building. These shops specialize in a range of unique goods and will appeal to many. For those who would consider visiting the Brewers Quay and Timewalk Museum the opening hours are 10.00am - 5.30pm seven days a week all year round.
